Film Synopsis
This documentary is about the budding natural wine movement in California. Each natural wine producer will have his own definition of “natural wine”, but most would rally in saying that they are dedicated to put the terroir on a pedestal.Through lively and in-depth interviews with natural wine producers in their own working environment, the vineyard and the winery, the film reveals the passion and the techniques that distinguish these natural wine producers from other wine producers, emphasizing the importance of organic and sustainable farming, the reliance on native yeasts during the fermentation of the grapes, and the restrained use of sulfur.
Ultimately, “Wine From Here” captures the values of a new generation of wine drinkers who care about authenticity and the environment. The film is the story of this generation’s favorite winemakers who are today pioneering a new trend in California‘s wine industry.

Martin Carel
Big Bro Filmmaker
I moved to San Francisco for almost a year to meet people in this nascent natural wine world. A real nice mix of travels, investigation, interviews and plenty of wine tastings. That was the ideal situation to capture and document the dawn of the natural wine movement in California.
Matthieu Tanguay-Carel
Little Bro Filmmaker
I’m also a software engineer turned filmmaker, at least for a couple months. Full steam at the beginning, I had to return to my day job too quickly. That was a quick dip in the natural wine world and great wines. Hit me for recommendations!
What Is Natural Wine?
That’s a good question. If you would ask that same question to wine experts or winemakers, each of them would give you a different answer. Since there is no standards for natural wine, it is easy to trigger a long (and probably interesting) debate when the term is dropped on the table. One of the simplest and meaningful definitions we found is the one from David Lillie & Jamie Wolff, partners of Chambers Street Wines:
Natural winemaking is […] a traditional view of wine as an expression of specific terroir and grape varieties, with minimal intervention by the winemaker.
